Can you tell me what’s wrong with this cartoon?

A machine gun is better than a sword

It’s main intended message would seem obvious. If the king would just take the sales meeting he’d increase his chances of winning! A machine gun is better than a sword!!

But in that statement we assume he would recognize what a machine gun is, we assume he would understand what it does, and we assume he would immediately understand that it’s better than a sword.

The status quo is a very powerful thing. Even if he would have paused to take that demo, would he have had enough confidence in the alternative to march into battle with something he’d never used before? Or would he trust what he already knew and understood, even if it was inferior?

Innovation is hard to recognise and accept, even when later it’s painfully obvious.
